hi all quite new to all of this

when i put the fishes light on yesterday i noticed some tail damage on one of my new male guppies tales and this morning when i put the light on three guppies tails had been chomped on and one of my sail fin rainbow fish has been just about de-tailed and i was wondering what could have done it the other tank occupants are as follows
3 rainbow fish m, preacox
2 sail fin rainbow fish
3 tiger/rainbow platies
2 mickey mouse platies
3 male guppies
6 female guppies
2 black kulie loaches
2 glass shrimps
2 pygmy corydoras

ok so if the culprit is in this list what do i do next i have another tank set up but this houses bettas and i dont want any fin damage in there

thanks in advance chris

what is a sailfin rainbowfish?

i doubt very much it was the platy's..they would be one of the least culprits in the tank...maybe your fish have got fin rot? what size is your tank??

its deffinatly not fin rot its too much too soon for that i think
but the platys are alot bigger than the other fish and it only started to happen about four days after they were introduced who ever it is, is doing it when the lights are off at night thats for sure

tank size?

Its rio 180 (101 x 41x 50 cm) volume 180 litres, Its heavly planted with various plants and huge pieces of petrified wood, has a sand floor.

Rainbows are one of the fish with fin damage, one of the thread fins upper tail was completely removed over night so its certainly not fin rot unless this fungus can eat through fin tissue in to this extent in 9 hours.

Anyway no fins where nipped or appear to not have been, still intact through last night so will keep a careful eye on the situation and hopefully spot the culprit soon before any further damage is done.

Will try and post a picture of set up sometime today
