I think it would be risky with that many argumentative CA's and the Jewel.

But hey, try it and see, you may want to do it until stuff gets big then you'll know yourself when its time to rehome etc.

Like my tank (120g) , its well overstocked for everything in it for life, i will just rehome when i need to (and have been) .

bulliet what where u trying to say ? and ye ill probably re-home the jewels when they get bigger and slowly turn it into a more peaceful tank when they get to big or aggressive see how things go i say

I'm not sure how Nics fair with other CA's, but my female was evil, she destroyed a GT the same size as her (6") and killed a Rotkeil and a Tapajo, so Nics are deffo just as capable as the rest, Female Cons are bitchy, but not to bad, Male Cons when at max size are evil and remind me of small Red Devils, Jewels are similar, JD's from my experience are very placid, but i have heard otherwise.

As you can see from my set up in my sig, i have totally given up with CA's :p I'm a SA only guy now because CA's drive me crazy.

lol u basicaly just said there all mental haha i have 2 jewels at the moment a turquoise one and red and an male con, and ye i like red sevs but there too big for my tank hmph :(

CA's are fun to, you'll just see later on that you'll have to thin out a little, you'll know when :p

I'm shocked that Nics have a reputation as being a good community cichlid to be fair, i only ever hear bad things about them from other forum users (when mixing them with others).

Another issue maybe cross breeding, the con, jd, and nic will breed if they are opposite sex's, which could mean dooms day to the others lol!

Many people confuse CA's with SA's thinking that they need to pair off, from experience this certainly is not the case, some are more prolific than others, but it does seem that no CA cichlid can resist the charms of a little female convict, luckily you don't have one :p

I had to get rid of a beautiful little female convict a little while back because she would breed with anything that was CA and male, i was constantly getting rid of things to accommodate her, then the little hussy would just move on to her next.

If CA had CSA, she would be the male fish worst nightmare lol with possibly over 500 fry over 6 months from 3 fathers of different species of fish (Convict, Sajica, JD) and she was still under 1.5" !!!!!

Do you know what sex your JD is?

The nic will be brighter colours if it is female (yellow and blue) and the JD will have most of its 'pearling' on its gill plates and less on the body if Female.

i dont have my JD yet aint seen one yet been so many places so annoying ive only got the 2 jewels and male con i was thinking of going with a male JD because they are brighter and the female nic like you said. i have 3 Odessa barbs at the moment aswell as bottom dwellers as i stated earlier. the main fish i want is the male JD but i want to keep my male con that i raised from fry as cons where my first cichlid

Cool cool, well cons are cool anyway, people don't give them a lot of credit because they are cheap and easy to get hold of.

The con will attempt to breed with the Nic, the JD may but the Con will deffo get in there first.

Be aware also that JD's have surprisingly big mouths. (with the barbs)

My mates JD just ate 2 of his Red Tail Black Sharks that he bought, the sharks were about 2" the JD 3.5", he noticed one was missing, then noticed a red tail hanging out of the mouth of the JD, the other was gone.

If you had a bigger tank i would suggest a Midas/red devil as they compliment males cons very well.

ye i was thinking about that with the female nic hmmm. ye heard they have big mouths i did have 5 barbs but the jewel ate 2 so im not sure if i should remove them but they seem to be ok now they have grown since i got them. what fish would you go with in my tank con and the jewels having to stay :)
