When you guys cycle your tanks do you use the popualar method off addding all this ammonia and stuff or dont you worry with that. Does any body just set it up and run it for a while and get fish when the have good water stats.
Ammonia=0
Nitrite=0
Nitrate=10
Ph=Around 8

This is my cichlids tank is it best to add my single demanosi last as he is an agressive fish i will be getting some yellow labs also to start.

My 3 port hoplo catfish have cycled most of my tanks, they are well known for being almost oblivious to water conditions. I think fishless cycling is a very good idea but i have just stuck with what i'm used to. Oscar's are also commonly used to cycle tanks but if you're planning on keeping the Oscar, make sure its a big tank. :lol:

I think it's pretty important to avoid cyclying with fish when you've got a pH up in the 8.0+ range. Ammonia toxicity is just so much higher at that pH. Even a small amount of ammonia can be deadly. At the very least lots and lots of water changes are a necessity to keep the ammonia down throughout the process.
