just curious for alternative stocking.

i have a 5 gallon hex currently housing neons before they are moved on to my brothers tank, the current was too strong for my veil tail betta.

and a 7 gallon rectangle tank, currently housing a betta and 2 corys. but the corys are going to move on soon with the neons because my betta is too feisty and has goes at them (despite one being bigger than he is), and the betta has had a go at his own tail.

what would you do with these tanks? other than bettas?

Well at the very least they would work well as quarantine or hospital tanks. Other than that, you could continue to use them as you are, with corys, neons, tetras, guppy's etc. Or you could try to breed fish like guppy's etc. You are kind of limited because they are small. Someone may have some better ideas.

I'd keep the smaller one for a hospital tank (unless you've already got one) and try to get some endlers for the larger one. Lovely fish.

This is where I am in the hobby right now at least...

5g: a multi-species shrimp tank with small driftwood, mosses, and other small plants

7g: Rock, Hemianthus callitrichoides, and dwarf hairgrass aquascape with 6 ember tetras

What type filter do you have in the 5 gallon hex? That is the same type tank I have one of my bettas in. It has a Whisper 10 filter that is adjustable and you can turn it down to the point that it just trickles water. No current at all hardly but still enough flow to keep the bacteria fed and intact.

the hex is a Fish R Fun hex. i don't know if its the same. the fan in the filter is bloody noisy! drives me bonkers, can't wait to move and not have it in my bedroom!

the filter isn't adjustable, i wish it was! the one in the 7g is adjustable thankfully, so i have that on minimum.

modernhamlet - those are very interesting ideas you have there!! will bare those in mind.

i don't think i could get a divider into the hex easily.
could do into the 7 gallon i suppose, but where the filter is makes a funny shape so i'd have to make sure the betta couldn't squeeze through!

I'm considering Killifish for a small tank, but I need to do more research, so I daren't recommend them, you may want to look into them though
