added female bolivian ram to my tank, and the male won't leave her alone. bad judgement on my part as i wrongly thought they would automatically 'pair up' i'm not sure if it's better to try and return her, or get a couple more to even some agression.

what would you do?

You could try reintroducing her to the tank.

Float her in a bag for a while away from the male and see if he accepts her.

Other wise take her back to the shop and exchange for a couple of others on the understanding you will return one when a pair forms.

Aren't rams territorial?

I was told when introducing a new one to rearrange the tank before adding the new ram and to isolate the ram that was already in the tank. Possibly bagging both rams while rearranging the tank decor, then releasing both may help. The male will then have to restablish his territory also.

This is the way I helped my friend introduce her female to her tank and it worked. I think she had asked in the cichlid section and that was the advice given to her.

Hope that helps!

Hope you don't have the experience I did. I bought two Bolivian rams at the same time, from the same tank. When I got them home (there were only two of them in a 75G), one decided to be dominant and terrorized the other one until it died. I think the second ram lasted a couple of days before its tank mate (and most likely spawn sibling) literally bullied it to death. So now I only have one Bolivian ram, and he is happier by himself.
