Hi there, we have a 55 gallon tank, currently home to a few small goldfish but I'm thinking of alternative ideas. I'd love to go for Oscars but I'm fairly sure it's not really big enough, but it would be nice to go with few larger fish than lots of little fish as the tan is often viewed from a distance.. what do you think I could do? What have people done in the past?

The tank itself is 52" long, 24" high and 12" wide, it's fairly minimalistic atm with just a couple of large piece of bogwood and a sand substrate..

Any and all ideas welcome!! :)

Your right its not large enough for Oscar, needs to be 75g ft minimum for them, same for Severums.

If you like cichlids, you could have angels, firemouths, ellioti, aureus, sajica, acaras, surinamensis to name but a few. Along with some dithers, such as rainbowfish, giant danios, larger tetra species for example.

If someone gave me a 55g tank and I would have a turtle tank mixed with ampbibians.

I am pretty keen on the idea of Cichlids!! though I'm a little lost and there seems to be soo many!! are they fairly easy to care for etc and ok with hard water?

Most cichlids are very easy. They will adapt to most water conditions,
