for over a year i had many fry every month from my platy mothers, now their surviving offspring are all grown up :)

but none of these offspring will breed? they must be in the range of 8 - 12 months old and have never had fry, they have never even looked pregnant? there was the problem of too many males to females so i introduced some 'new' shop bought females, yet these havent bred either? (and trust me i keep a sharp eye on my fish!)

would their be any factor apart from for some reasons the males being sterile, that would stop a platy breeding? im wondering if i should buy in some shop bought males?

Maybe your males are too young to be mating? I'm not sure, my fry are only 3 days old.
If your tank is full or overcrowded that might discourage them from mating.
They could be inbred and therefore sterile.
Have you noticed them trying to mate?
How big is your tank?
Water stats?

males are not too young, there is a mix of 6 months to a year old in there. tank is a 6 ft long tank so plenty of room. they follow each other around but have never seen them trying to mate. *sighs* i dunno what to try. maybe some barry white and candlelight?

edit - water stats ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 5

I'm not really sure then. Maybe add a male from the lfs. Good luck.

My males does the same thing.
he follows them around but he does not try to mate.
he like to school but not mate

I have never seen my male try to mate with my females, and yet one of my females just had babies and the other is pregnant. There is still hope.
(I can't tell if they're his babies yet.)

I have had pregnant females to and I have lots of fry
but never have i seen him mate with them maybe that
prefere to do it when we not looking
