Hi, im asking some of the tropical fish forums what would be their perfect/ideal tank?

What fish would you have, what substrate, would you have bogwood or rocks, would you have aquatic amphibians, what size? etc.

Thanks for your replies, Mikey

Small shelldweller tank with colony of neolamprologus multifasciatus. Those fish just have so much character. Sand, lots of shells, a bit of rockwork in the background.

My ideal Cichlid tank???? hmmm probably the one I'm waiting to finish cycling, 48 x 27 x 18, sand, lots of rocks and some lovely gingeus mbuna.

Large, one of those pangea rock backgrounds, sand loads of rocks and filled with wild caught fish.

I've thought about this over the years and, if I ever set up a large cichlid tank, it'll be purely for altolamprologus calvus - I love them! :)

However, if I ever have the money for it, I'd like to build a shallower, narrower tank that runs all the way around my living room so that it takes up 3 of the 4 walls. I could then have as many multifasciatus colonies as I'd like :p I'd go with dark sand only in this tank.

If you're interested in my mbuna prefferences, however, I'd use white clay to make my own rock structures and then stock with L. careuleus, P. acei, P. saulosi, P. socolofi and I. sprengerae. Those are my 5 favourite malawi species. As for tank size - the bigger, the better :D

Cool, its interesting to see what people would prefer...
some say smaller ones and other say huge monsters of tanks.
thanks for sharing :good:

The one i have. :D

couldn't pick just 1 thing I'd love to do, there's so many things I want to set up. For african chiclids, inaddition to my tang tank I'd like a big malawi tank and a shell dweller tank too, but there's shed loads of options outside of african chiclids. Given half a chance I'd easily have about 20 tanks :D

I already have my perfect tank. However if we are talking about dream tanks, I'd go w/a 300 gal custom tank (long and low) w/about 6 different species. Don't mind me, I'll just keep dreaming.
