what would be a good fry tank

That would be ok, for the beginning of the fry's growth because when they become larger you should move them to a larger tank. Some people have a 10gal fry tank so in the end they don't have to move their fry...unless they grow in to some really large fish.

That would be adequate for fry up to about 1-2 months of age.

BUT, and this is a major but, maintaining the proper water conditions in such a small tank is very difficult. Temperature swings are very sporadic. Small water changes must be done almost every day depending on stocking level. Ideally you are better off with a 10g fry tank. You cant go wrong at $8.80 for a tank.

I found as long as the tank was planted and in an are where the temperature was stable (ie not in front of a window) that I didn't have a problem. I didn't do daily water changes either. I did 20% weekly and the nitrite and ammonia never went above 0 (after cycling) and I have never had the nitrate above 10 - and that was after I went on holiday and a non-fish person fed my fish (never recommended...).

Normally i would use my 2 gallon tank as shown in my sig, but me CAE is in there, so sadly the fry have to go in the bredding tanks that i have, and i cant keep up with the number of fry i keep getting, because i am a person who dont like losing any fish, aggressive or not...

I have a small tank that can suit the babies, but it will be some time before i can set it up for them...

;)

I have several fry tanks based on the fry's current age. See my signature. You can keep them in a small tank like that, but not for long. How many fry do you think you have? I have a 15 gallon tank for my "older" fry and they are doing just wonderful. The fry in there are about 1 1/2 months old.

When i first started breeding guppies, i thought i could get away with just one 5 gallon but as time passed i have noticed you really need several tanks not just for their age differenence but for different spawns.

I use a breeder trap for the first few days to the first week because they usually have a harder time learning to swim and sometimes there can be premature guppy fry that just chill on the floor for a little until they finish their egg sack. Fry need food and fast.

After about a week i put them in a small 1 gallon that i left floating in the 10 gallon. I kept mine there for a couple of weeks till a month old. After that they start getting to big for something like that.

About a month old i put them in my 5 gallon which is the first tank that has any kind of substrate (sand). I learned the hard way that no matter the age of guppy fry they can be stupid enough to dart into the gravel so i changed it all to sand.

Probably around a half month to a month i put them in the 10 gallon which also just has sand.

So far this method has worked for me but i just started. I have an empty 45 gallon which i'm thinking of starting up for the guppy fry because now i'm starting to get 40 fry from one spawn and i think its getting to much for my 10 gallon.

As soon as i get another heater, just a small one i can use that for some of me fry, because as gto_cowgirl said, it is best to keep different batches of fry apart because i tried to put mine together and they didnt like it...
