I think our first fish will be some Gold Danios we saw yesterday they are lovely. I was wondering what other fish can live with Danios and also can you mix different types of Danios in the same tank ? I'd also like to know if it's ok to have a tank of all female fish as we really don't want to breed any fish. Hope someone can please help thank you. Btw not sure about tank size yet but I think it will be 3 or 4 ft long.

Danios are pretty versatile fish and can get along with pretty much anything else including other types of danios. I have zebra danios mixed with australian rainbows, blue gouramis, clown and zebra loaches, corys and a red-tail shark. Any of those would go well with your danios as well as most other community fish. You could go with an all-female tank but it usually isn't necessary. Many fish, including danios I believe, will often eat their eggs or fry, especially in tanks with other types of fish in it, so if you pick your species correctly there should be a problem with breeding. It is probably best to stay away from livebearers though. And since the males are often more colorful than females you probably don't want to go with an all female tank. Besides, some species are very hard to identify sex especially as juveniles which you buy at the store.

Thanks for the reply, I'm not sure which of them fish, we'll be able to get hold of I did see some guppies, gouramis and tetras would any of them be good, as for male or female I don't really mind as long as all the ones the same type are the same gender, I thought females might be smaller and get along better, but if a group of only males can get along that's fine.

guppies are livebearers, and if u get all females, they can still have fry. if they are ina store they have probably mated and can hold sperm for up to 3 pregnancies, so keep that in mind :good:
