hi dont know if you have been reading my other posts but i am getting another tank soon and im having platies, corys and 2 plecos in it :)
i was wondering is there any type of bottom dweller that would look really good and doesnt grow big and doesnt eat other fish?
the tank is a 60gal i think

can you help?

or should i get amano shrimps?

Ghost shrimp are a good, if its a 60 gallon you could get a good few, they are cheap and make and interesting clean up crew. Ive got them in almost every tank, even my coldwater tank.

Ghost or Amano shrimp are fun. They are actually GOOD swimmers too. You will see them everywhere in the tank.....on the plants.....swimming around....they are fun and good janitors, too.

60 Gallon (US or UK?) or 60 litres ?

Peacock eels (yes, I know, I know, I bring them up at every possible opportunity but really, they are undeniably cool :shifty: ).

I second the shrimp as well, very neat to watch and funny as all heck at times.

German blue rams could look quite nice too but you may have problems with agression if they pair up and decide to breed unless there is plenty of cover in the tank.

Personally though, I think there is alot of bottom dwellers in the tank already and you may find that adding some more fish which will hang around further up in the tank as well may add more activity to it. Perhaps a couple of african butterfly fish or a shoal of hachet fish or glass catfish would be nice as well (a cover on the tank would be a must though).

Cory cat fish are nice, and you can get different types, albino, peppered , and many more. they are very good cleaners, and if your platys have babies they won't eat the fry.

Hi,

I think a farlowella would be a nice addition to a 60 gallon tank, they grow between 5-8 inches depending on variety but they are very weird looking and a good talking point. They move slowly and boing along the bottom or suck on the glass or plants. Mine lives alongside ottos and bristlenose plecs with no problems though he'd be fine in my other tank too. Bamboo shrimp also grow to a decent size and are easier to spot than smaller shrimp, i have 5 living with my corys and they are great to watch.

Hiya,

I think that you should try to buy a fire eel, as unless you starve them they will never eat you fish. They are extremely peacful and although they grow really big they grow reasonably slow.

Personally I would seriously advise against the fire eel. The inevitable tank size needed to house a fully grown one is considerably more than 60 Gals and they do grow quite fast under favourable conditions. If an eel is the way you want to go then do yourself (and your wallet) a favour, stick with a smaller type such as peacocks. In the case of peacocks they are extremely sociable and you could easily house multiple eels in your tank as well (from now till the day they die).
