My wife bought tetras near where she works about a week ago but we she didn't ask what they were. They are mainly a whiteish, silver colored and nearly transparent from just behind the gills back to their tail. They have a faint yellow strip on their fins and a faint orange or red tail. On 2 of them the tail is so faintly colored you almost can't tell that the tail has a tint until they turn the right way. They are very pretty. Any idea what kind these are? She hasn't been back to the store to ask them.

if you can take a pic of them and post in the picture section I'm sure someone there could tell you in a flash

i think i have some of these.

sliver gill cover and silver stomache, translucent flanks and fins, except the anal fin which is alot bigger with a greyish white stipe on the outer edge. tail is red/orange. they were advertised as bloodfin tetras, but other pics of bloodfins that i have looked at seem to have red dorsals.

:S

I have tried to take pictures but the yellow on the fins and the orange tail doesn't show up. They almost look like lemon tetras but I know they aren't.

 Could they be X-ray Tetras,translucent/silver, red on tail, black/yellow stripe on fin, pretty fish.

It's not an X-Ray. It doesn't have the black stripe. The fins are transparent except for the faint yellow stripe. Even the tail is almost transparent except for the faint orange tint.

Congo tetra? Does it look like this maybe?

Unfortunately, not the congo or anything from the Live Aquaria page. I will try again tonight to get a good picture. As you can probably tell I am new to fish keeping. What is the best way to get good quality pictures? I actually have a cheap underwater digital that someone gave me a couple years ago. The key word there though is "cheap". It doesnt' take very good pictures even not in water. I have tried our regular digital through the glass but haven't had much luck.

The Prestilla/X-Ray is close except their tails are only faintly orange, almost undetectible on 2 of the 3. The fins, both dorsal and anal, have the yellow stripe but no black.

Bright orange tails are a sign of a healthy, unstressed and happy pristella. If they have just ,oved they will not have the birhgt orange yet. I have 4 of these, they are great additions to any tank (apart from very small obviously).

:)

They may be pristellas but I don't think they are stressed. They are very active with the other tetras in the tank and they all eat like a bunch of piranahs. As a matter of fact, I have the light set to come on about 15 minutes before I usually get up and they all look like kids waiting on a Christmas present when I walk in the room. They are all ready for food.
