I'm trying to findout who uses what, why and what difference has it made.

I personally use RO wit added minerals and it's been gd for the alge in that i don't get much of it. I started using it when I was told that it's better for the fish by my lfs, at first I though it was a con but now I don't see anyreason to go back to the nasty tap water.

most of my tanks I use treated tapwater
on one Iuse treated tapwater with peat filtration
and blackwater extract added.

Well it's cheaper for me to use RO cos i jus buy the water and i've worked out that it's about 1p cheaper.

personaly a favour RO and kent RO right, i know the water is clean, and constant...... tap water is to unstable, with varieing levels of desolved organics and metals, which play hell with sensative fishes amuin systems.

R/O water and filtered tap water. I guess you could call it treated though it's more than simply dechlorinating it.

Apparently two people do. And someone uses rainwater. Do you people have any idea what's in that stuff? :p

I use well water (surprisingly not one of the options!) which is very hard and has a very high pH. Although it's not as good for keeping most fish, it’s good for keeping African Cichlids and I guess maybe brackish fish. What's good about it also is that it's consistent in parameters and free from any sort of contaminants (so far), and also free of Chlorine, so that saves a little in not having to buy de chlorinator.
It also tastes better than tap (city) water. :p

I think it more depends on the source than the fact it is well water. I've tasted well water that's so nasty and bitter I'd rather drink salt water. :p

right now what i'm thinking is who votes jus tap water

Me, for one!

Been using nothing but tapwater, untreated, for donkey's years and ain't had a problem yet.

I always let it stand for 24hrs before using it. 24 hours is more than sufficient for any Chlorine to evaporate.

What else does the dechlorinator do that would make it worth using? How does it work, by forming other chemicals that are chlorine based and water soluble? Are the resulting solutes good for the fish (or better than just evaporating it off into the atmosphere)?
