What Type Of Thread To Use?

Hello i would like to attach a pieave of java fern to a piece of wood i have laying around. What type of thread or string do i use? Would anything suffice? I cant use fishing reel becuase i dont have any and i would like the attachment to "dissolve" eventually so that it look as natural as possible Thanks in advance

I've never used it but many use super glue

I use superglue; it's much neater!
 
If you want the thread to dissolve, you'd want a pure cotton thread, but you might find it hard ti find, as most 'cotton' now is actually nylon, which doesn't break down in water.

i dont have superglue and the wood has to come out and go back in the water as it has algae and a small anubias on it (i did tie the anubias it came like that) Thanks for the replies though

HHH, they won't dissolve but you could zip tie the java fern onto the wood.The only other option is some cotton thread but you'll probably have to remove that after awhile unless you get pure cotton.

The superglue you want is a pure cyanoacrylate one; it'll say on the packet. The cheap tubes you get from pound shops are usually ideal
 
You (just roughly) dry the wood and the rhizome, pop on a little bit of superglue (it does go white underwater, so you don't want to use too much) and hold the two together for a few seconds, until it holds, then it can go straight back into the tank.

Sorry about the slant and the dirtt glass.. How long will it take to root so i can cut of the band? And i propagated this plant by cutting the rhizome like with anubias is this safe for java fern? Thanks!

Looks nice!
Once the roots look like they have wrapped themselves around the wood then you can remove the rubber band.
Java Fern propagates on its own so when you see little plantlings you can cut them or wait for them to remove themselves.

Try doing a search for "fine fishing line" on Ebay.  There is some very cheap stuff on there.
Superglue is great for anubias & java fern but I prefer the fishing line for moss as it gives a much more compact carpeting effect.
