my guess would be a blue accara, a brown accara, or a dwarf flag. im hoping the flag.

I think its a Brown Acara - AKA Port Cichlid, Aequidens portalegrensis.

Its definatly not a Blue Acara, Aequidens pulcher.

And I'm pretty sure its not a Dwarf Flag, Laetacara curviceps.

:)

It looked more like the flag at the store, but more like the Port when I got him home

See if you can get another pic . It's definitely an aequiden [ acara ] .

not a port or a flag .

I tried googling Aequidens Maraie , but no pics , I had one of these a few years ago , looked similar to a blue acara

maybe Metae ......click images , yours maybe a juvenile

those dont get big and mean do they? I wouldnt mind big, but not mean,

My eprience with Maraie , no it wasn't mean , kinda shy and about 5" long when I brought back to the shop .

I tryed to get some better pics, but they all just looked bad.

definately brown acara. just match up teh spots near the tail and on the body

wrs ,

How big is the fish now ?

If it's a juvi , it's going to look a little different than the fish in the link , at any rate , it not a port , definitely some kind of aequiden though , there are a few .

And I do think it looks like the fish in the link , those are adults .

Well of your own 3 guesses , it's not a flag [ lateacara species ] or a port , it could be a blue acara showing stress coloration .

and at around three inches , not done growing .
