What Type Of Fish Can I Mix With Oscars?

I am currently in the workings of redoing my 55 gal. at work. My co-worker and I want to put some oscars, and a pacu in the tank. My question is what types of freshwater fish (other than cichlids) can i put in the tank without them being devoured by the oscars?

I would like to add some columbian tetras and a grouami. Possibly some zebra danios. But i'm almost positive they wont survive. Will they?

Can someone give me a list of fish that i can keep with them?

IMO, a 55g tank is too small for adding anything with an Oscar. I think an Oscar should be in a minimum of a 75g tank after 6 months or so.

55G will be sufficient for one adult oscar only, nothing else just one oscar

Please please research the fish you indeed to buy. Find out their fully grown size and compare that with the dimensions of your tank! Hopefully you will have second thoughts...

Yes, IMO dont even buy the pacu, should not be in home aquaria as most people can't handle the water volume they need. One oscar needs atleast 75G a minimum as an adult to be healthy

Ok, so suppose i had a 120Gal (which we do at work). Then what would you suggest?

With a 120 gal, you could easily fit an Oscar, but not a pacu. Pacus are huge fish. I figure you could keep a JD, a convict, and a school of silver dollars with an oscar in that tank, maybe more but I'm not sure what.

If you want the oscar and as little aggression problems as possible go with an O and maybe a school of more peaceful fish. having a 120G, you can have a school balas, silver dollars or tin foils with the O. As long as the schooling fish stay bigger than the O's mouth you will be fine. If the fish are small enough to fit into the O's mouth, it will go in as anything that fit into an O's mouth, it will go in, like a little child
