This is the Angel I bought 2 days ago. only small and the only one that had perfect markings on both sides. Fuss pot me gave it the tick after my daughter chose it :) It's settling okay today and nice to the other fish but likes the look of the baby mollies as a snack but is not quick enough thankfully ;)

What I'd like to know is what type of Angel is it? I have read there are different types with regards to length of fins, width of fins and other reasons too but am curious to know. And what is the mature age of these and approximate size as I am not familiar with them?

it's just a plain old common silver angelfish, (Pterophyllum scalare)

Usually most cichlids grow to roughly 80% of their adult size in the first year. I dont know how big this species gets but, whatever that is, you can infer from there

Does tank size restrict their growth? Being a cichlid then, aren't these aggressive by nature? My Aunty had a white large cichlid ( which I thought was the only type of cichlid ) and it was so aggressive that she couldn't keep any other fish with it as they all died. It was real nasty. Why are the Angels in this group?

Angels are usually only aggressive towards their own species (due to territorial instinct) and small food fish (like tetras... a common food for them in nature).

Every species of cichlid has their own "attitude level" if you will with some being so aggressive you cant keep other fish with them... and others being right at home in any community set-up... angels are def much closer to the later type

Size of the tank will effect the fish. I believe an 18" tall tank is necessary for an angel to not feel cramped (height wise), and if the tank is overall a small volume, then the fish could be stunted where the internal organs continue to grow while the outer size of the fish slows down and can cause early death. what size tank do you have it in?

Ox :)
