I want to keep shrimp in the 5g along with other fish too. So I was looking around for some fish that are peaceful and won't harm the shrimp and found 1: Neon tetra, 2: Pygmy Cory, and 3: Rasbora Het. But the problem is that they are all schooling fish and need to be kept in large numbers! So I was wondering is it ok to put like 4-6 of one species of those fish into a five gallon tank with alot of shrimp and will they still be happy? And which one of those would be the happiest in a school of 4-6 in only a 5 gallon tank? And if I can't do that, what other species of fish can live in a five gallon without eating the shrimp or shrimp babies?

P.S. I don't want all of the baby shrimp to survive(that's part of the reason i want other fish with the shrimp) but I want like at least some of them to. I have a lot of hiding places for them.

"Will they still be happy?"

Who knows, it's such a small tank I'm not sure there are many ways to gauge it. Well, if they die or start gasping for air you have a negative response I guess...

Hmm maybe I'll get a gourami they seem nice. Does anyone know a smallish fish(like neon tetra-sized) that doesn't school but is compatible with other fish? I don't think I'll do any schooling fish in the 5g.

ember tetras school...and in a five gallon you could have 10...they get to 2 cm and with them you could have 5 dwarf corys

Well I'm adding a lot of plants to the tank so I think at least one gourami would be good in that? I don't think my fish stores around me have ember tetras. How many dwarf corys can I put with one gourami and a few shrimp? Are gouramis compatible with dwarf corys?

by gourami you can only comfortably fit honey gouramis in...6 dwarf corys...a honey gourami and about 10-20 shrimp would be fine

You could keep a pair of Nannacara anomala in there. My LFS has a pair in a 20l on the counter, heavily planted with shrimp in and looks sweet as!

Sounds cool. :good: I need to find out if the pet stores near me have honey gouramis though. And I need to find out if they have dwarf corys! Lol

a good fish store can order fish in for you

Well, I called. They didn't have any honey gouramis, are those the only ones that can go in a five gallon? HOw about a dwarf gourami? And they didn't have dwarf cories, but the guy I talked to said that in the store, they don't call them dwarf cories(and I went on there site and the site said they had corydoras and there was a pic showing a dwarf cory so that might work). And lastly I asked if they had red cherry shrimp, they didn't have any but they let me special order some.
