When i get my tank stand for my 15 gallon :) I was thinking of setting my old 10 gallon up. Can anyone give me advice on what to put in it. I want a breeding pair of something. Not to expensive though. I was thinking about parrot fish -_- but ithink that the tank might be too small. Any ideas?

lol parrot fish? As in the hybrid? They need a 50gallon tank for 2.

In there some would suggest rams, I am not sure though. Definatley not kribs before someone suggests it. What kind of fish do you like? Are you after livebearers or would you like more of a challenge?

A pair of dwarf gouramis would do well. they are pretty and breed quite easily.

do you know how hard it is to get females??

Id say rams as well. But theyre not very hardy fish, and minght die easily. Bolivians are hardier, but they get bigger, and in a 10 gallon, you can only have 20 fry from them.

You can always order a pair on aquabid, or buy a male at LFS and order the female online.

Rams are good. I love mine. I have a school of tetras in there with them, but know that I might need to move the tetras should my rams decide to spawn. If you decide to go with rams, you can do an internet search for "breeding blue rams" (or bolivian) and you'll get a lot of good sites.

My rams haven't spawned yet, but that's OK with me. Rams are good b/c they're great fish to have even if they don't spawn - lots of personality

ETA - You also might want to look at the African shell dwellers (African cichlids)...

Ease of getting female dwarf gouramis depends where you are. They are very commonly available here.

Cherry barbs are pretty and seem to be one of the easier fish to breed. however you might want to get a trio to split the male's attentions between two females.

Shell dwellers can be hard to find and are difficult for a beginner but could definately work. I think most of the shell dwellers are polygamous though aren't they?

Thats some good advice you guys gave. Sometimes I hate when I see topic, and you guys come through with all the good answers b4 me

Well i guess no parrot fish then :( Didn't know they were a hybrid. I already have some livebearers and a male dwarf gourami. I also have some cherrybarbs but i really dont want to breed them. Maybe the dwarf gourami's but i dont think i can get a female. I think i had one a while ago though. It was sold to me as a male but i looked at some pictures on the internet and it looked like a female. :sly: O well. Any other ideas?

Maybe i will just breed my bettas. I have a few so why not. :)

note if you want to breed hte bettas that you'll need a big growout tank later on :) (30-40Gs)

i think the rams would be a good idea, otherwise livebearers are pretty much it i think :/

when you said pair im guessing you dont want livebearers... i bred kribs in a 10g and they are fine.. i donno why cheese said no about that but anyways.. i heard keyhole cichlids stay small and can be bred in a 10g... rams also are cool and you could do them also.

i believe the min for kribs to reproduce was a 20g becuase they are very aggressive and could turn on each other if you dont' have any dithers. a 10g seems awfully small for them to me tha'ts all :dunno:
