I've just brought myself a 39 gallon tank and am struggling to decide what to put in it!

Was just wondering what you folks would suggest. (or what you keep in a tank of that size.)

(The tank is 40cm W x 37cm H x 120cm L [39 gall. according to thinkfish calculator thingy.)

Thanking you.

a nice few angle fish and a smaller schooling fish... not neons or cardinals as the angels will eat them :p

honestly, I don't know because I only have a 10 gallon tank, but I am soooo very jealous! I am new to all this but maybe some day I can talk my husband into letting me get one that large! But I have to say I LOVE your little milk icon!!! Where did you find that???

It's not deep enough for angel fish, but a pair of rainbow cichlids (herotilapia multispinosa) would do nice in there, with some tetras and a bristlenose plec ;)

Angel fish need a tank that's at least 18" deep. Therefore this specific 29g isn't big enough. I dont know the dimensions of yours so couldn't possibly comment on your angel fish.

uhh the tank in question is 39gallon Lisa...

as Lisa said though it's not the number of gallons it holds but the height of the tank that's the problem, that tank isn't tall enough for angels

37 high, 40 deep (width)... 40cm deep is what in inches? like 14-15"? That's plenty deep... I agree after the specs that the hight isn't enough, however your saying that 18" deep as in width is the bare minimum, well I have 4 angles in a 29gallon tank and have had them there for 6 months, they are very happy, it's only 12" wide...

and miss wiggle, sorry but she said deep, not high... 2 different things there... also Lisa, no need for the harsh sarcasim, just pointed it out... and in your opinion you think it's not deep enough, I agree with not high enough but it's plenty deep...

Really?? My 29g tank seems to be fine for the angle fish. They have been healthy for over two years now and are even spawning.

What plant is that in the background, like a lily?

Mottfish: I would go for shell dweller chichlids, but that's just me.

That's an American Pond Weed I found in the pond of my sister in law. Grows like crazy and I need to trip it weekly. The guaramis love it and they keep building nests under the leaves.
