hi folks

i have a 125l tank and i want to get some more fish. ive left it for 2 and a half weeks before adding anymore in and ive been down to the lfs today to have a look and what they have. i want something thats colourful and swims middle to top regions. in the tank i have

1 veiltail bristlenose
3 panda corys
5 black neons
1 rtbs *
1 silver shark*
1 betta
1 gold gourami

* rehomed when larger

any suggestions would be fab thanks

Your gourami and betta get along? Cool... and no nipping from the tetras on the betta either?? Amazing. Have you thought of cherry barbs or danios? Danios aren't really colorful but they are very active. I think as far as the inch-per-gallon rule that you're pretty stocked as is, so you'll need to be careful not to overstock and get into problems that way. Hope this helps a little at least.
Good luck!

have you cyled the tank if not i sugges you read the pinned topic before doing anything else.

3 panda corys=these need to be in groups of 4 or more(preferably more!)to be hapy and feel safe otherwise they can be shy and skittish.

1 rtbs =needs to go now really not when larger it will nip at the others eventually.try and rehome it

1 silver shark=needs to go now really not when larger it will nip at the others eventually.try and rehome it
1 betta-the betta will be picked on and nipped later on.It would be best to move it to its own 1gal bowl and they dont get onw ith gouramis very well

your pretty stocked as it is so when them fish get bigger the tank ill be overflowing, try and get rid of them now if you can

i have a rts and he doesnt bother anyone it is down to the personality of the fish so monitor him

the bala or silver sharks like to be in their own company and are recommended to be kept in 3s and 4s so id rehome him straight away back ot the LFS and keep the RTS

also the neons will need a couple more - about 3 or 4 more shud be fine and im suprised the gourami and the betta are fine together but again fighting and fin nipping in my opinion is down to the fishes personality so just monitor them and everything will be fine

yes gourami and betta get along fine as do tetras and betta, corys are fine they aint shy or anything. have no problems with the betta it dont need to be moved and yes i cycled my tank before i put the fish in!!

thanks fishwatcher for your info, was thinking of barbs.i know its getting pretty full so i may end up not getting anything!

well ive had guppies in the past with gouramis and bettas and they did fine but i moved my betta to a tank of her own but the guppies are still with the gouramis and other fish and they are the coloufulist fishe ever and you can get so many colours and patterns.
but then again guppies and sharks dont mix :/

You should add some more tetras and some more cories. Re-home that bala shark. The RTBS may be ok (possibly permanently) but the bala needs to be rehomed imemdiately as they should be in groups.

Do you have a male or female betta? What about the gourami? If they are both female, it may be ok. If one or both is male, you'll probably have problems once they are mature. Particularly as the golden will become quite large (6") and quite aggressive as well.

Be careful if you add barbs. Don't get anything too large or nippy and keep in mind that most are schooling fish.

I also just thought of another pretty fish, though they may be nippy too. Sherpae tetras are so pretty! Some tetras seem to be nippier than others, like my whiteskirts are VERY nippy. So I guess it just depends. Whatever you think you might like to get, I'd watch them in the tank at the lfs or lps a little while. That should give you an idea about how they'll be. Good luck!

My X-rays are nippy! So I think it's partially luck and temperament of the individual fish. I can't keep guppies or bettas with my tetras. I would like some other fish though so I'm going to a lfs tomorrow that's supposed to be real nice. I shall let everyone know what I end up falling in love with then.
Hugs,
P.
