Hiya people,

I have 8 Cardinal Tetras and the three lots of food I have don't cut it for them, I have:

Nutrafin Max Complete Flake Food
Nutrafin Max Complete Micro Granules
Tetra Pro Colour

The last two suppose to be designed specially for them (they even have a cute picture of them on the front), but they don't seem to like them.

They're okay with the flakes but they don't really get a chance to get to it as the Pearl Gourami's are greedy gits and scoff the lot before it gets to them.

I have Frozen Daphnia and a a Tropical mix which they pick at, but I'd like to get the right food for them as they are so worth it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Martin :good:

They should get some live food, spread it over the surface and they will. Remember they are small so they dont need as much food.

I have some granules from tetra, red ones, which drop like a lead balloon and the Cardinals love them....if you have a cat be careful though, cos my cat seems to be partial to them also :

I just crush up my flakes into pieces small enough so enough gets pushed around and pushed down by the filter so plenty reaches the cardinals. They don't like to come up to the top (big bossy gouramis and platys up there) so they hang around and get all the sinking stuff, while the other fish are still preoccupied up the top.

Mine will eat the Nutrafin Flakes.

And if they're hungry for long enough, they will eat it eventually. I don't know whether you just got them, they may just be used to what they were fed before at the LFS/wherever and are being fussy, but eventually they'll get used to it.

You could try the New Life Spectrum small fish pellets. They're a bit more expensive (Maybe £5 a tub) but my fish seems to like them quite a lot.

I've had them now for coming up to 2 months so they should be use to the menu now :) I think I'll just persevere a and work it out.

I see that you have a Peal Gourami there. Do you have a male Pearl Gourami?
