I will have in the future a spare tank :hyper: but its an odd size 44" x 14" x 17" approx 170l and I was pondering what to put in it, too small for a breeding tank for the servs I think. I could of had my convict only tank but no point really now I have my fronts. Just wondering what to put in it.

It would be ideal for a group of dwarf channa species, or a small pred setup with something like a Nandus leaf fish, african butterfly fish, a smaller bichir etc..

Channa! I thought they needed a larger tank now there is a thought they are very nice and would need to do a fair bit of research first. Which species would be an ideal starter channa? how many could I keep in that size tank.

I'm sure nelly's ornatipinnis lived in a smaller tank, and simonas' orientalis too.

Any type under 8" would probably be ok.

In that setup there are many species that would be suitable with sizes ranging from 4"-6" to 8"-10",
i.e. assam, bleheri, ornates, orientalis, gachua, pulchra, harcourtbutleri, etc..

Most of which are subtropical btw

Thanks very much I will do some research first.

my favourite of all the channa i kept was the punctata! absolutely stunning fish! max at about 10-12" but most likely 10"
i would definitely recommend them, but in a species tank!
other than that here is assams, pulchra, bleheri, ornatipinnis, orientalis, gachua, fire and ice, platinum, sp. red fin, blue moonbeam galaxy, the flouro green is a gorgeous variant of punctata, quite expensive at about £100 a go but stunning!
