I have a 75 gallon tank that I bought used. It has 2 glass tops and nothing else. I know what kind of filter/heater to get but I don't know about lights. Can I sit strip light directly on the glass?

Next question is about stocking. I really would like a community tank with a few large, unusual fish for the focal point. Any suggestions? I plan on low light live plants, some large rocks, drift wood and a nice natural brown gravel. I absolutely don't want any live bearers or tetras, I've kept them for years and want something different.

I can't wait until I can start to set my tank up. I'm taking my time to get the decorations just right before I get any fish. I'm off to look at fish & tank photos. Thanks for any help.

A BGK (Black Ghost Knife), they are my favourite fish, or how about an Oscar? I've had no experience at all and I haven't researched these fish but I like the look of them. I know a little bit about BGK's though.

I actually had though about rainbow fish. There are some nice variates out there.

How are knife fish in a community? aren't they predators? Oscars are cichlids and I don't want to do them. I had thought about a African cichlid tank though.

Too many choices!!

Keep the suggestions coming.

No cichlids, they are pretty but I really want a planted tank.

I've narrowed it down some.
silver dollars
giant danios
congo tetras
huge school of mostly male endlers
large school of another small bright tetra
dojo loach
