What To Do With Bad Leaves?

I've got some bad leaves. I've got a sword and 3 out of like 8 of the leaves are browning. One turned completely brown. Should I just snip those off through the stem? Also, I've got grass and it's covered in this brown stuff. I think it might be crap from the bogwood I put in...

Snip the leaves off as far towards the roots as possible. I'd guess the brown stuff on the grass is more likely to be algae, can't say I've seen bogwood do anything like you describe?
