One of my danios got wrapped around the filter pipe. He couldn't have been there very long as I had been watching tank for awhile when I noticed it. I shut off current and he fell off and to bottom of tank. I went to get him out and realized he was still alive but shaped in a curve now and can't swim. I'm thinking he can't possibly recover but I don't want to just let him get picked at by other fish while still alive. I have him in a net but it's horrible just watching him like that. Is there any chance at all he will pull out of this injury? How long can he survive like this? I just can't imagine taking him out while he is still alive but I don't want to make him suffer either. What is my next right thing?? Any suggesuions appreciated............. :(

Poor thing. :( Danios are tough fish though, they can bounce back from a lot. Keep the tank lights off so the fish isn't stressed. You could add some Stress Coat or similar products that repair damaged slime coats. It won't matter to the other fish if you add it, they probably won't notice.

Hope he recovers!

One of my younger Cories did the same thing. Sadly I couldn't save him, but I did put a small block of Aquaclear 20 filter foam on the end of the filter intake to stop that from happening to my other small fish.

I have a similar problem at the moment with a rena filter pump. It has a sponge and a carbon filter in different section of the pump which then clip together.

My Danio got stuck behind the pump and sadly died. I think there is some suction from the back of the pump and once they are behind there they get stuck against the back of the pump. I just don't know what to do I have been taping up the different sections of the pump to stop the suction but this creates problems with cleaning the pump.

I have now lost 6 small fish this way over the past year and I have finally had enough. I have taken out the pump and am going to buy a new one tonight. Has anyone got any suggestions for a good pump which won't suck in the little guys.

I have checked and I have the correct size of pump for the tank so it is not that.

Any advice much appreciated,

Kirsty
