What The Scariest Thing You’ve Ever Seen In A Lfs?

There was a bubble eye goldfish with only one bubble... both very creepy.

I had one of these fish I called him one eyed willy and he was the last in the tank. I said to my hubby that I wanted to pay half price for him but he said that he was just as worthy as all the others with 2 eyes.

Your husband sounds very sweet! My husband would probably have pointed out a different fish and suggested we get that. That's only if I managed to drag him into the store in the first place.

There's a few scary things I've seen at lfs.

A turtle tank that housed plecs that people would drop off due to their size. They had two plecs between 1.5-2 feet long!!!

A 300g that held a orange and white striped snapper missing one eye.(Okay, not scary, but I wouldn't wanna put my finger in there!!!)

A 20g housing 9 RB's (RB's kind of creep me out;no offense)

A juvenile pleco half eaten by an apple snail, still hanging off of the snail, twitching, upon pointing this out to the staff member he said "ooh its cleaning him" i told him not to be so stupid, so once he'd checked it he took it and chucked it straight in a tank with an arowana, luckily it hit the bottom without being eaten, but unluckily, by the time it got there it was dead.
Same shop, staff member trying to sell me an upside down catfish for a 5 gal start-up tank.
A juvenile catfish for sale (can't remember the species now) that i saw fully grown in the blue planet aquarium, it was easily more then a foot and a half. I'm sure if i'd asked they'd have attempted to sell me that for a 5 gall....

In fact everything about this LFS is scary.......

I don't think I would go to this place except for supplies. They sound like they have no clue what they're doing.

don't think i would use that lfs for anything ever :(

Once I saw an eel jump out of the tank and out onto the floor, slithering around like a snake. It scared the CRAP outta me.

Oh, and at another LFS, they put baby mice into a tank of Black Belt Cichlids. They tore it apart. It was gross x_x

Only use it if nowhere else has livefoods now. Although i have and would continue to buy hillstream loaches from there; just to save them from the shoddy conditions (love hillstreams).

I had a look at those fish on youtube they are very cute! How big do they grow? Are they easy to look after?

one of my local LFS has a pair of lads that work there whilst the owner is out, Beavus and Butthead come to mind.

there was a bloke asking one of them questions about a bearded dragon they had and one lad shout over to the other and said "oi D**KHEAD whats this lizard about?" the other replied "ITS A F***ING NUTTER, NOT WORTH THE DOSH" the well to do customer was soon scared off by them rather the dragon, no wonder the place is going down. it had loads of snakes on every blasted corner you turned as well, now that freaked me out big time. :hyper:

Lorna; depends on the species (which can be quite hard to tell apart) but from 2" to 4".
They are easy to look after once you have a tank set up well for them, but getting a suitable tank ready requires;
1) more money than usual (extra filters or 1 xL filter, airstones)
2) patience (get a decent algae build up before adding fish, make sure tank is well and truly cycled)
3) effort (extra water changes, more water tests)
4) limitations (other species that can be kept with them, plants that are suitable for a cold, rivertank set-up)
Theres a fair bit more to it, but those are the basic things to bear in mind before purchasing.
But its well worth it, they are gorgeous; all cute and wiggly, very interesting to keep. Brilliant IMNSHO!!

Make a thread if you want on oddballs or cyprinids and i'm sure you'll get a fair bit of advice or search under beaufortia, hillstream, gastromyzon and pseudogastromyzon on the Loaches Online website for info....
Sorry to hijack
Peas!

The very large plecos at the LFS scare me. The beady eyes and leathery looking skin.. just.. bleh....
And they've had some really humongous ones.

Also at Superpets... saw some little 3inch Oscars with their feeder fish hanging out of their mouths bc they were too big for them to eat in one gulp.
It was just disturbing to see.
