so i go into my bedroom after school today.. to find both my bettas laying dead in the bottom of their tank!!!
they were fine in the morning i cant believe it! they were the best bettas ever
...worst thing is i cant find anything wrong with them ! no marks on them at all, water is fine; nitrate 1-5
nitrite 1-5
PH 6.5-7.5
temp 27.5C
the only thing i can think of is the airline with holes in it that i stick on the outlet of the filter to kill the current has come off....
im really shocked n upset and i know im probs being a sissy but my heart racing n everything...
:shout:

oh, that's terrible! I'm so sorry for your loss!!

At first I thought aggression, but you said there were no marks on them... (but two betas still strikes me as risky. I've heard females should be kept in bigger groups, and of course you can't keep males together at all...)

But I'm thinking it could also be a water quality issue. Nitrites are really bad for fish. They should always be at zero. If yours are between 1 and 5, that's not good. What's your ammonia level? And did you cycle the tank?

Were they in the same tank? it could just be one had a infection and the other one caught it but no markings is a bit odd. sorry for your losses.

sorry for not being clearer, i was really upset and wrote it in a hurry ..

i have....had.... two male bettas in a divided tank

i think the only probability is a disease of kinds, however i know next to nothing about anything other than very common ones
... heres soem pics to remember them by

bye guys :shout:

Oh my goodness.. I'm so sorry! They were both such beautiful bettas.
I dunno what would've caused death so suddenly and in both fish.
Maybe someone sprayed something near the tank?

Were there any signs of illness before?

Sounds like the tank wasn't cycled yet, but I wouldn't think stress from that would've killed them both at the same time.

Well anyways.... ***HUGS***

theyeve never had any problems with illniss b4... tanks been runnign for around 5 months... ill ask if anyone sprayed or did anything stupid near the tank they want to confess about, other than that i am completely stumped :/

Oh no. I'm guessing it was because of the nitrites, not sure why they've popped up now though. The tank would have been cycled by now. What size was it?

it was a 5.5g...
not the biggest tank i know but they seemed very happy to me..

I'm so sorry for your loss! :-( That's got to be the ultimate shocker. :-(

As far as possible causes, nitrites above .25 could considerably damage fish. Nitrites block the ability of blood to absorb oxygen, so it's entirely possible that (considering that your nitrites could be as high as 5) they asphyxiated. Even with their labrynth organ, but if their blood wasn't getting oxygen it wouldn't have made a difference. I'm so sorry, it feels horrible to say it, but it's the only thing I can think of.
Without media from another tank, it's possible that the cycle wasn't complete, even after all this time.
I've had my 10g tank for months now, and using pre-established filter media I still have never gotten a nitrite reading.
