Swiming in a pond. ...no, not really.
I must have terrible luck with fish, or I'm a horrid owner. Umi, my beautiful blue/green/white female and Kakashi my VT male died within two days of each other. Kakashi made a suicide jump, while I was out at a party. My mom found him all dried up. I'm just glad I didn't find him. Thing is, I've never had any problems with jumping males. Especially with Kakashi.

Now Umi's case was a little different, and a bit weird... She hadn't been looking well in the past week or so. After Tsuki died, she had gotten herself caught up against the filter while I had removed the nylon sock to clean it. Her fins got all ripped up, like Lita's did. She just never recovered, I guess. She was looking paler and paler by the day, not eating and just hanging near the surface of the water. The other girls nipped her fins every once in a while, and they just got worse and worse. At least, that's what I assume happened. Since my internet's on the fritz and I couldn't come here, I asked my Lfs owner. He said it might have been a bacterial infection. I trust his opinion, but he's not the best with Beta.

Now I have two of my original five left, and one new girl (blue with a black face) who I've called Azul. I'm worried my other girls will catch whatever Umi had if it was an infection, and I need help.

RIP Kakashi and Umi.

Hi
After your post on 25 Feb, i would have thought you would have learnt that bettas jump, male or female.
I think someone told you a cheap way of covering your tanks? At the end of the day covering them with anything would be better than nothing!

Sorry to hear of your other one suddenly dying :(

I had my males covered when I left earlier that day. (Females got a new lighted hood.) I tried asking my little sister to find out why his cover was off, but she gave some lame excuse involving my dog... Somehow, the cover got knocked off. I had a plastic cover that came from the deli containers, and it fit pretty well.

Now my step dad is being a total jerk, and said no more fish. Screw him, I'm still going to get a new male.

honestly sounds like your sister or even step dad was messing with them and left the lid off.

yea.. i frequently have to grab my bettas and put them back in they containers wen i do major water changes.... they jump a whole lot....

i feel for you though.. i was changin my tropical tank the other dayand one of my australian rainbows jumped out the container.. and i didnt even kno he was gone until i pulled back the couch 15 minutes later. he had hopped behind the couch... i was kinda upset at that.. i had had him for awhile 2!!
