What are these white spots that werent there yesterday. Did I just answer my own question? They are in a clean as hell barebottom discus tank.

Can't make much out in the pics.
Do you mean on the tank or fish.
How big are the spots.

Could they have burned themselves on your heater? That's what it looks like to me, and happens quite commonly with Synodontids. Does your heater have a guard? If not, you should invest in one.

I must be blind as I can't make much out in the pics.
Can you give a good description.
It wise to put a heater guard over that heater as a member has already said they can burn themselves on them.

There is no guard on the heater and its definatly possible that they burned themselves. They love the heater and they hang on it day and night. That was my first thought actually.

The white spots in the water are actually spots on the outside of the glass, and a few bloodworms floating. I noticed the big spots on the sides of the cats right after I threw in food for my discus.

Could be a burn if they rest on it.
Just half dose some melafix as not all fish can cope with full dose.

Do you still not see the spot on the fish in question wilder? Its that pretty large white patch on the side of the fish. It normall isnt there. They are usually totally brown. If its just a burn ill probably skip the melafix and just keep the water clean.

They are doing fine. I moved them into a different tank with more hiding spots so they are not laying on a heater all day. Already starting to heal a bit.

That good then.
