What the heck are these? Anyone have a clue what they are? They've been in my tank for a couple of months now and they're spreading like wildfire. They almost act like a jellyfish... if you touch them they pull their little tentacles back into their body. If anyone has the slightest clue what they are, please let me know! I hope they won't hurt my fish. Here is a pic:

They are only a couple of millemeters long... sorry for the fuzzy pic!

I'm not sure, but it looks like it might be hydra. Google it and see. If it is, it can be a problem for small fish. Gouramis (pearls, blues, golds and opalines) will eat hydra. HTH!

Yep, looks like hydra - let me add moonlight gouramies to that list :p Just buy yourself one of the magnificent pearl gouramies and he'll rid your tank of those pesky little critters once and for all! Never seen a single one in my tanks and have pearl gouramies (or other gouramies) in all of them. :)

They act more like coral pollyps IMO though...

I really woundlt get rid of them...they filter your tanks! ahh...natural filtrarion :D

Yep, they are definitely hydra! So, what do I do? Get rid of them with a gourami or leave them? It's a 10g tank that I'm planning on putting guppies and some ottos in. Will they harm these fish? I don't mind if they eat the fry produced by the guppies. I don't have any spare tanks to raise fry in anyway.

I don't think they're realy a problem. Leave them and if you notice problems you can put a dwarf gourami in there and let it eat them up for you :p
