What The Heck?

they goin to die water too high and other fish around will eat the fry male may fight for his territory but imposible no sence to do that waste of eggs and time

I've heard of bettas spawning in community tanks, but I've also heard that the fry survival rate is practically nil. I really don't know why anyone would want their bettas to spawn in a community tank anyway.

well, considering they're in a community tank, and that they're veiltails, i would imagine that person isn't exactly serious about spawning bettas anyhow.

i take that back, this IS a breeder of sorts.

likly somone keeping a pair of bettas in a community tank, which is a bad idea as that particular tank looked to be a little small. its actually very common for people to keep female and male bettas together, despite it being 80% unsucessful, and resulting in teh deaths of one or both fish. im not sure how they get this idea but there should probably be some awareness. Im not surprised that the 2 would spawn, but needless to say the fry and eggs will be eaten by the other the fish, and the stoney substrate does not allow for the eggs to be easily found by the male.

but on a lighter note, he had a very pretty platty :D

See how ripped up that male was? Bet you anything that's not from just the one spawn, those two probably live together all the time.

only reason i say this person is a breeder is because of the other videos. i never said responsible. or intelligent.

i had the same thought, synirr

[edit] okay, i take it back. i was under the impression that those other movies were by the same person, but they aren't. i'm smart.

I had 2 sibling juvies spawn once in a grow-out tank with all their brothers and sisters around. They were under immense pressure to protect the eggs after each embrace and stop the others eating them. I quickly grabbed a divider once I noticed what as going on and isolated the male with what eggs he had collected but he was so stressed that he ate them.

I'm always careful now to remove any males as soon as I notce them so it doesn't happen again, not nice to put them under so much stress
