I don't have a heater and since the temp varies alot (it's 79 now) between gay and night
In the day it's usually 81 during the night it may go down to 75 or so. Should i put a heater to keep the temp the same?

to be honest 81 is kinda warm anyways, and to keep it stable you'd have to set the heater to that.. if i were you id just leave it seems fine as it is.. may want to see what others think.

I would. That's a big swing between day (or gay if you prefer ;)) and night. Fish can get stressed with that and it can cause ich.

No wonder. That may have been the problem all along..
The tank is at 79 now so i'll monitor it for a while to see how low it can get.

I have some more questions. One is can i keep mollies with no salt and
2 is i have river sand substrate whick is a bit rough... will it hirt my cory's?

-Mollies do better with some salt but ive kept/many other people keep them in freshwater and they seem to be ok.

-River sand should be fine. I use lake sand and my cories love it. Better than gravel anyways im sure ;)

kool i'm getting cories on tuesday
the sand i just not something i'd want ot stuck my nose in, but your right better thasn gravel. Plus my nose isn't meant for sticking in sand anyway.

I want a livebearer tank anyway so some salt shouldn't harm them right? the only other fish i'm gonna have except mollis guppies swordtails and platies is probably cories so... no harm right? or wrong?

Please dont add salt if your going to have corries, its really bad for them.

lol i wasn't going to anyway. I thought so as they're scale less.

me me! one more question sir
yes
I've seen many people with a betta or an angelfish in a vase with a lucky bamboo. If I let the stem grow up out of the water.. how would it fare in my aquarium? i'm guessing not well. : (

Be just a little careful with your wording here. The temperature changes will stress the fish, which will lower their immune system's ability to fight off infections and parasites, like ich. If ich is present in the water in the first place. However, changes in temperature cannot cause the ich organism to spontaneously appear in the water. (And please don't try to say that ich is in all water, since that is only an oft-repeated myth, and is 100% not true.) Just like not wearing a coat in winter cannot make cold viruses spontaneously appear in your lung, but your immune system will be weakened so the next cold-sufferer to cough on you does increase the chances of you catching that cold. But again, it was not the temperature change that caused the cold.

It would have been much more accurate to have written "Fish can get stressed with that and cause them to be more susceptible to ich."
