I have a 20 gallon tank and was curious if an otto would be fine in here? It has a big and small piece of drift wood with some plants on the wood. I plan to make it heavier planted. Thanks in advance.

I wouldnt keep an otto by itself. I have two and ive been advised to get a couple more. I think they would be ok in that sized tank but dont take my word for it. What other fish do you have?

You could have a group of 5 in that size tank, just make sure the tank is mature as they are quite sensitive. :good:

BN pleco, 2 Bolivian rams and 5 dwarf rainbows.Tank has been running for a year now so they should do fine.

Yeah tank size'd be fine.
Make sure you have a good algae build up as otos can be unwilling to take prepared foods.
You should keep a minimum of 4, the more the better really.
Make sure you purchase them from a reputable LFS that you know has quarantined them well, they have a tendency to die not long after introduction and there are all sorts of interesting rumours surrounding this; Use of chemicals to sedate by breeders that result in stomach injuries and death.

:dunno:

Hmm interesting, I will keep it in mind.

I've also been wanting to know abit about otos. Ive got 2 heavily planted tanks and want to get some. Are they hard to find for other people in other countries? Cause over here in Aus, they are quite rare to find.

ebrcknrdg, I looked at your avatar and with all due respect I must say you are quite the beauty.

Will I want to keep the pleco in this tank or will the otos do all its work?

Plecos arnt suppose to be fed just on what they can eat of the ground. I hope your feeding it sinking pellets. Otos can live off algae but plecos can't.

Went to my local otos and they only have 2 at my LFS, but good news, they are ordering some for me!

Otos should be kept in groups but will need feeding pellets or veg too, because they can quite quickly eat all the algae and then starve.
