What Tank Should I Use?

ive got a 5 uk gallon 24x8x8. with a 36w pc light.

or ive got a 26x12x14 tank (just uinder 15 uk gallons i think) this tank can have either a 55w pc light or 2 t8 15w lights.


what tank would you choose?

both tanks would be using pressurized co2 and ei ferts.

26" one, far more room for an interesting scape and more error margin regarding ferts and co2.

tbh i did prefer the 26 inch one. however it has a few fish in at the moment which well need to moved for a 3 weeks while the AS settles down.

what lighting would you go for?
the 55w pc
or the 2 x 15w t8?

I'd personally go for the 2x15W t8s. This is becuase it's plenty of light to grow most plants and it's much more managable than the 55W.

I'd do both, personally. I'd lower the wattage on the 5g, say to around 18W, and make it a low-light tank. It's kind of difficult to roughly gage. I know I use 24W over my little 8g and 13W over my 2.5, so a low-light 5g would be somewhere in that range. Some petite nana, some moss, some HM (yes it'll grow pretty well in levels that low), and you can have a nice little scape without much hassle. I wish I had a 5g with those dimensions, some great options for visual manipulation. You can make the tank look huge.

When I had my 15g, high-tech, I ended up using 2 28W T5 fixtures. 15g is kind of in between regarding lighting, I found that I needed quite a bit more lighting to produce the equivalent effect in that tank then in, say, a 20g.

When given the chance, I will always opt for more tanks. I'm itching for another one now.

im going to go for the 15 gallon now.

Not sure which hood yet though. (ive got one with 2x 15w tubes and modded another hood with a 55 w pc).

i want either glosso or hc. im about to order up stuff from AE including some redmoor wood.
