Hi. I have 2 of these in my 30g tank (see signature on left).
I was wondering if this variation has a name?

Perhaps they are some kind of cross between other known angel types?
Thanks.

Are they still quite young?Chances are they could develop a more distinct half black colouring as they grow.

I only got them a few weeks ago, they are about 2 inches long and 3 inches tall, I don't know how old they are but I would assume they are quite young based on what I read about angels before getting them.

When I used to breed Angels many, many years ago this color was called smoke or smoky I believe.

iirc its a smoke or choc marble

My lfs has white and back marbled koi's in at the mo soooo tempted

Oh yeah, I just remembered to ask also; Is there any way to tell whether the angelfish is male or female?

It's a smokey, I've been breeding them for a while. If the body is less than half dark it's a smokey, more than half is a chocolate.

You can't sex angels with any certainty unless they are actively breeding. I'll throw one out there & say female. I can sex angels with near 100% accuracy about half the time.

nope not until thay pair off and start to spawn really if you get 5-6 angels in a tank your prob get a 1 breeding pair if your lucky once thay pair thay will tend to kill the others sad but true
