Hello there! ^_^

I've been saving up for a larger tank for quite some time now. I've narrowed down the list of fish (along with quantity) I want to keep and have come to the following:

6 Boesemani rainbowfish
6 Zebra danio
6 Harlequin rasbora
6 Swordtails
2 Keyhole Cichlids
4 Blue Rams
2 Dwarf Gourami
12 Cardinal Tetra
6 Diamond Tetra

First off, can someone tell me whether this combo is a recipe for disaster or if it'd actually work? ;) If it really is a recipe for disaster, feel free to make suggestions as to what I should keep instead. Secondly, to house all these fish comfortably, what size tank would be appropriate? Thanks for your help! :good:

i dont think keyholes are suitable for thouse fish, dont get dwarf gouramis they get diseases, and only get 2 rams, a pair. for all the fish you have said i think about 40gallon tank

Its going to depend on the size of the tank your thinking of getting, if you want keyholes and rams, then its going to be need to have sufficient space for them to set up territories. I would suggest in the region of 55g for that amount of fish.

agreed absolute bare minimum 55g pref 75. best advice really is get the biggest tank you can fit/afford as believe me if you dont then later on you WILL

as minxy said as long as there is enough room for the keyholes and rams to have their own defined territories all should be fine . altho personally id swap thee dwarf gouramis for pearl gouramis and the swordtails for maybe upping the size shoal of cardinals. not due to compatibility issues just my personal preference . a good size shoal of cardinals looks fantastic imo . and pearls ime are hardier and less territorial than dwarfs.

Thanks a lot! ^_^ I was actually saving up for a 180 gallon. :D I'm going to take your advice and switch from dwarf to pearl. (I've heard one too many horror stories regarding the dwarf gourami.) I'm also going to take Dwarf-P.'s advice and keep only a pair of blue rams. So now the list is...

6 Boesemani rainbowfish
6 Zebra danio
6 Harlequin rasbora
6 Swordtails
2 Keyhole Cichlids
2 Blue Rams
2 Pearl Gourami
12 Cardinal Tetra
6 Diamond Tetra

I have a thing about swordtails and would like to keep them in there, although I do agree with you. A huge shoal of cardinals is most certainly impressive. I'm just terrified about acclimating the cardinals and getting them to survive the process, I've heard horror stories there too... Since I'll be getting a 180 gallon (I absolutely refuse to settle for anything less...I've waited too long for this  ) do you think I could add more fish and have everyone still be comfortable? What other fish would you suggest? If nothing else I suppose I could just increase my cardinal shoal but before that I'd like to hear some suggestions. ;) Thanks again!
