Quick question, what size tank would you use to keep at first a breeding pair of 4" Malawis with the male being removed after the breeding has occured?

Thanks ^^

3 ft would be ideal, 2 ft might work if they only spend a couple of weeks in there every few months (depending on species).

Well im not sure of the species myself, i just wasnt sure what size 1 fish would need with fry. I was hoping to get away with something smaller to be honest, with regular water changes to help the condition.

I keep several breeding groups of 4 fish 1m 3f one group per tank in 2x1.5x1.5 or 3x1.5x1.5 tanks with no real problems :good:

Adult fish need space to swim and fry need space to grow. There is no way around that.

forgot to say i remove the fry to another tank and all my tanks have 50% water changes each week :good:

Very true ^^ It can be easy to underestimate the size needed until you watch them zooming around like i just did :p

Would it be easier/safer to remove the adults after the fry was free swimming?

I strip my females as I get much bigger broods that survive this way then put the females alone to rest and feed up before reintroducing them to the species only tank :good: but yeah if you let the female hold fullterm removing the adult would be a lot easier
