I have 3 neons, 4 zebra danio, and 2 whiteskirt tetra. In the past, I had more of each breed. However, I have been looking into stocking my tanks with different breeds of fish. When some of these fish have died, I have not replaced them. Now each of these types of fish is in a group much smaller then they would prefer.
WIth the neons, I lost a few to what I am reasonably sure was NTD. Would it be unwise to get more neons to keep the remaining 3 of them company, or would that just expose the new neons to NTD that the remaining three might still be carrying?
Overall, what would you recommend I do with these remaining neons, zebra danios, and whiteskirt tetra?
1. just keep them and let them live out their lifespans in my tanks, without getting them more company?
2. put my desire for different fish aside, and get their group sizes back up to proper numbers.
3. try to give some of these fish a my lfs, stock up on the remaining breeds, then consider a new breed in one of my tanks assuming I would not be overstocking.
4. other suggestions you have?
FYI, here is my tank stocking:
20 gallon - Aquaclear 50 filter, sand - 5 male platy, 3 neon tetra, 4 zebra danio, 1 bristlenose plec
29 gallon - aquaclear 70 filter, gravel - 1 common pleco(5"), 15 platys - mostly runts from a batch of fry I had - we just couldnt bring ourselves to cull them. Many are still 1" or less although they were born in March 06.
55 gallon - aquaclear 110 filter, sand - 8 female platy, 3 spotted raphael catfish(4"), 6 rainbow madagascar(2.5"), 1 common pleco (7"), 1 bamboo shrimp, 2 whiteskirt tetra
