I currently have two marbled gobies in my Violet Goby tank. The SG is 1.008. I can't find any info on the SG required by marbled gobies and in fact most sites list them as fresh water. I can easily put them in a fresh water tank but I bought them with the intentions of being in my brackish tank. Currently they are 2.5" and 3". And yes, I know they get up around 20" when fully grown.

They are fresh and low end brackish fish which wont appreciate a SG above 1.005, i keep my one in freshwater at the moment and it seems to be doing fine.

Do you plan on keeping them in FW for life? I'm seriously thinking about moving them over to FW.

I'm not sure on what i'll do with it yet, i keep both brackish and freshwater tanks so i have either option. I may put it in a very light brackish brackish set up with a few siamese tigers and spiney eels eventually.

How big is your marbled goby? I was talking with someone yesterday that has one that is 15" long and it has been in FW for 4 years. He said it seems perfectly healthy.

Mines about 6-7" at the moment.
There seems to be a lot of confusion about whether or not this is a brackish fish, most internet sources suggest brackish though many people have had success keeping them in FW and even the Baensch book says the fish is FW but then suggests the addition of 1-2 teaspoons of sea salt per 2 1/2 gallons of water.
It could just be a case that the fish is hardy enough to survive anything, most of the larger sleaper gobies are pretty bomb proof so the choice is yours as to where you want to keep it.

Last night I acclimated them over to my 10g grow out tank. Once they are around 4" - 5" I will move them into their own 20 or 30 gallon tank, and decide from there.
