Hi all,

I'm curious to know what sex my fish is...

Also I believe its a Red Honey Gourami....but on saying that there is so many labels out there on the internet for this particular fish its so confusing!!

Maybe someone can confirm this for me?

Thanks! :good:

Really? :S That's the first I've ever heard that Red Honey Gourami females are silver??? I thought that was only Dwarf Gouramis. (Blue or Red)

From everything I've read up about these fish, the only way you can tell what sex they are is by the dorsal fin shape...or when they are actually breeding, the male goes really, really red and develops a black colouring.

But I just can't tell from this dorsal fin if its male or female as I've nothing to compare with.

Ok so...Thanks anyway! :good:

You should look at the all the honeys when they're in the lfs.

From there you can tell the differnce between male and female.

Yes, I will go and have a look when they are back in again.... :good:

It appears to be really difficult to sex them.

The dorsal fin on the male is more pointed apparently, but I don't think my Gouramis fins are pointed at all...more rounded. So I was thinking it might be a female.

Anyway...Its not majorly important at the moment :)

Looks like a female to me o_O

Simply going by the fins, its a male.
Females do not only come in silver they can be any colour, I have a blue female and yes shes a definate female, I have bred her and my male.

Male is on the right near the mossball, female on the left. If you look at the shape of their fins you will see the difference. Yours has the pointed top fin making it a male. I also have red robin dwarf gourami's and sexing them is the same.
