I got some sand from a landscaping place for paving but i got to much and wondering if i could put it in a tank? I put it in a jar and the sand just sinks. Would the sand get sucked up by the filter? Would plants grow in it? The sand name is wash off paving sand.

Hi,
Add a drop of vinigar to a small amount of the sand. If it fizzes, the sand is no good. If no fizzing or foaming occurs, the sand is safe. Plants will root well is sand, so long as it does not compact. Stir the sand regularly to prevint stagnent patches, or use malasian mud snails to stir it for you in a planted tank. Most sand will settle at the bottom of the tank easily, so as long so the filter inlet is not too close to the substrate, you will be fine. :good:
