What Sand

Just a quick one, i heard you can use play sand from toy shops and sand from DIY shops. Has anyone used any of this sand before, if so are there any types of sand to steer clear of.

I am about to put playsand in my tank... the main thing to make sure of is that it is non-toxic. plenty of people have used it on this forum..

Not sure about the stuff from diy places, i have heard about some of the builders sand not being quite right, but I would wait for confirmation from others.

Where are you based.. in the UK you can buy 15kg bags from argos for £2.49

Based in Plymouth got an Argos here, if that's the stuff to use i'm happy with that. Want to replace my gravel but wasn't keen on the price of the sand from my LFS.

You could wait for others feedback, as i am only about to add mine..

I believe it may need stiring now and then to ensure that it does not compact and form gas pockets.

And your right.. the LFS sand is a rip off IMO
