were going to change our 29g from gravel to sand? ive heard about going to home depot or lowes? what is the best type of sand? is it possible i could get the sand in black?

Tahitian Moon Sand comes in black, but is very expensive. I just picked up a 50 lb bag of Quickrete Play Sand at Lowes for a whopping $2.50. That is waaay cheaper than the gravel I bought for my tank a year and a half ago! If you have the money, you can go for the black, but IMO, natural is nice (play sand is not generally ONE color, but has lots of differnt grains) and play sand is the way to go.

There is also pool filter sand, but I'm not sure of the price of that.

id rather have black im not to worried about price. i will probably buy online if i cant get black sand at lowes of home depot, my lfs would be way too expensive, they overprice bad. what do you think about seachems onyx sand or
Tahitian Moon Sand?

Tahitian Moon Sand is IMO the only way to go for black sand. The other types tend to be lighter color, almost grey. It's more expensive but it's worth it. I have a 10g set up with it and I'm going to buy another bag to keep some in stock. I've heard it's no longer being made so what's in shops is it but I have my doubts on that.
