alot of books etc say 5.5 to 6.5 but alot of other people say as theyve been bred and bred and are not from the wild no more they are alot hardier than people think? my PH is around 6.5 atm and am jsut getting ready to add my discus.

what are your thoughts?

mine r happy at 6.8. which is what it comes out that tap at. it is more the wild strains that need to be keeped realy low as i have read if u start messin about with your ph will start to get problems.

excellent thats exactly what iw as hoping sum1 would say mine also coems outa the tap at aroudn that thank you

I always kept them at 7.5, same as all the LFS's, no problems, just got bored of them after a few years :p

Discus in the wild come from an area with a lower pH, but I was able to keep and breed them at 7.8.

my tap water from hma unit is around 7.3 , i think the key with ph and discus is just to keep it as stable as you can dont keep trying to lower the ph chems cuz when you dont keep it up the ph will just rise causing you more problems with the fluctuating
