Take a look at my profile and let me know what other foods the fish would enjoy, or need. Right now I just put in flake and an algae disk, and in the ten I put in crickets flake and occasionally shrimp pellets, oh and sometimes I put in frozen brine shrimp,(the only thing that'll eat the stuff is the ghost shrimp but they go nuts for it.). They all look well fed but I would like to treat them to something different and I don't want to buy something that they won't eat. thanks.

Blood worms? Your sharks, gouramis, kuhlis and cat would LOVe them!
Live or frozen....

yeah I've heard a lot of people talking about blood worms. If I buy live ones can they live in the tank or do I need to keep an eye on them and pull them out if they don't get eaten. I know nothing about them. I oughta just research them myself. I put an earthworm in the ten for the newts and it disapeared into the substrate, never found the little guy, but he was really small so maybe he got eaten and I just missed it.

edit: hey i guess that's what i'm doing isn't it.

Its always good to do personal research aswell. Bloodworms will survive underwater, seen as though they are midge (i think) larvae layed in water. but only for a short period of time with that kuhli loach! :p

 good news good news. I think the fish would get tired of eating the same thing every day. I know I would. oh btw, would cucumber or zuchini be a good idea?

My fishies love shelled peas, they are also supposed to be good for their digestion, just don't give them too many

Your khuli loach will like catfish pelets, i know mine do, you could also try feeding your fish some freezdried tubifex and daphinia :)

hmm I was just wondering. Can you thaw out frozen foods with a spoon and a candle. Kinda like people do when they are melting Edit: umm bad stuff.

is that better?

keep in mind this is a family forum and i dont think drug references would be very well appreciated here!!

anyhow, how can thawing individual peas on a spoon be easier than tossing a handful in a cup of water in the microwave (or boiling on stove worst case scenario)?

you should be boiling them in water....then placing them in cold, distilled/treated water to cool (known as blanching) and then squeeze the mushy part from the shell itself - fish usually have trouble eating the shell, not to mention they cannot properly move it through their systems sometimes which could lead to problems for the fish

hahaha. Not talking about peas. I was talking about frozen brine shrimp and the like. I hadnt thought about how to thaw the vegetables. Guess I figured I'd buy them fresh. Sorry about the drug reference, just couldn't think of a better way to describe it.

for the frozen foods what i usually do is dissolve an average amount in a cup of tank water....then i'll throw in a frozen chunk which floats for a little while then sinks - the top/mid feeders get their share and then the rest of the frozen chunk makes it to the bottom where the bottom feeders can get to it....i then pour the thawed food into different areas of the tank to spread the feeding out - this keeps the top/middle dwellers busy while the sometimes slower bottom feeders get their share! good luck!

and no offense taken here from the drug reference...just wanted to make you aware that others on this forum are more sensitive than i am

hey that sounds a whole lot easier than my way. Thanks a lot. none taken btw.

I leave frozen bloodworms on a plate for about 10 mins after chopping them up a bit and find they have completely thawed out.
