I have a lovely community tank that has been up and running a few months now and after advice on here i realised that there is no way i could add a siamese fighter to the mix!!!
Now i will hopefully be looking to purchase another tank in the near future and wondered what fish could i keep in there along wth a siamese fighter fish? I know it depends on the size of the tank how many but i'm just after an idea of what types of fish will live happily with a fighter?

Many thanks in advance.

Different bettas have very different temperaments. Some will do fine with other community fish while others won't. Fish to definitely stay away from are angel fish, guppies (the large tails on both make them prime targets of the betta as he mistakes them for another betta), danios and several species of tetras (fin nippers). Corys generally do ok with bettas as they stay mainly on the bottom of the tank. As a general rule though, bettas do best in a tank by themselves.

I personally wouldn't keep bettas with other fish, but as rdd mentioned, cories often work. Other options are shrimp and african dwarf frogs (be sure it isn't a clawed frog).
