ok, im about to start stocking my tank now, can anyone advise on what to put in?? its a 120lit (dont know gallons!), going to buy 6 neon tets (as advised on here), need a pleck, & was going to add a male beta (nice & colourfull!) how many can this tank take as i dont want to over stock, are these compatible & what other type of colourfull fish are availible? thanks in advance

so good i posted it twice!!

You need to be careful if you're going to put a Male Betta in your tank as there's not much he'll get along with, including Neon Tetra! Your best off, if you want a Betta to put him in his own tank, where he'll be happiest.

There's loads of other fish that you can have to add colour, like my favourite at the moment, guppies! They come in an amzing rainbow range of colours and are very active and a delight to watch.

if I was getting neons for a 120 I would about 15 or 20, 6 might look a bit lost in there. I wouldn't get the betta either, they are just annoying in my book lol, plus would do better in a smaller tank. What kind of pleco would you get? there are plenty that would suit that size of tank, have a look on www.planetcatfish.com for ideas. you could get a few BN plecos or one bigger one. You have loads of options for community fish.

Guppies are ok, loads of other tetras too (I like black skirts), platy's, rainbow fish, danios.... google search community fish and see what comes up you might get some ideas.

what filtration are you using?

thanks for advice, will check em out, i got a fluval 3 filter & pump set up

Fluvals are good in my opinion, I use a fluval 4 and a fluval 1 in my 120 litre tank and never had any probs, the only thing is you have to clean them out alot cause the get clogged quite easily, I put that down to them being very efficient at filtering though.

Yeh the male betta would eat the neons tetras. I had a experience like that where i brought 8 neon tetras, half an hour after putting them in 6 of them were floting because the male betta ripped the belly out of all of them.

I got more though.

Anyway! Yeh the neons are a good idea. I'd say catfish to. They eat all the food and crap on the bottem of the tank.
Guppies always brighten up the tank aswel.
