ok, im about to start stocking my tank now, can anyone advise on what to put in?? its a 120lit (dont know gallons!), going to buy 6 neon tets (as advised on here), need a pleck, & was going to add a male beta (nice & colourfull!) how many can this tank take as i dont want to over stock, are these compatible & what other type of colourfull fish are availible? thanks in advance

Your tank is about 30 gallons. :) If you want a pleco, get one like a rubbernose that only reaches about 4 inches. Most plecos get very large. I wouldn't suggest getting a betta... I had one in the community tank and he didn't behave himself. If you want colorful fish, get guppies! I love guppies; they're small and come in so many colors. Many people will tell you not to, but I think they're great for newbies. They are a bit fragile, so make sure your water is stable enough for them. :)

Yes you have to be careful with the betta's if it's male. They can be aggressive with other fish sometimes.
As for the pleco you could also try a clown pleco. They get up to about 5".

(I'm not sure what fish you have available in your area but below are a few choices.) :fish: :fish:

Guppies are colorful however the can breed like crazy if you add females. But you could get away with just males. Also you could try Endler's Livebearers once again males only. Swordtails & Platy's are good choices too.
However these above fish I listed are livebearers. So some may reproduce.

Since you have a 30 gallon tank. You could get about 30inches of fish. However a lot depends on what type of fish your getting so it's really hard to estimate how many you could put in your tank.

Personally I'm not a big fan of little fish like Guppies and Neon's and they always seem to get diseases. Keep in mind that
you have basically 3 areas in a tank to fill top, middle and bottom. So I would try and get fish that take up all these areas.
Cardinals would be good (if you like them) for a shoaling fish across the middle. Then maybe some Cory's for the bottom. As for the top go with Hatchet fish or maybe Golden Wonder Killie's. I would personally go with a Bristlenose Pleco rather than a rubbernose. Then to top it off with some Rams for a center pieces fish or Dwarf Flag Cichlids or maybe a couple Rainbow fish.
