 I had to euthanize my blue platy tonight.

I found more platy fry in my tank that looked like her a couple weeks ago so I thought she'd gotten so skinny because she'd been pregnant. But she jsut kept wasting away to nothing and now tonight she was laying on her side on the bottom of the tank. I am so sad :(

Im also very worried about the rest of the fish in the tank. The blue one had white strand (looked like a hair thingy) coming out of her and I saw over in the emergencies section that it was probably parasites that got her ...how do I treat the rest of the tank so I dont lose them too? I have 2 adult platies, 3 babies, a mollie and a snail in there to worry about. I did post about this over there but figured I'd post here too hoping to get an answer quicker.

Firstly you should test you water parameters if you have the equiptment. Are the other fish looking ill?

How big is you tank and how long have you had it for?

yup sounds like parasites to me, can't remember what the recommended med is though, possibly myaxin?

just bit of background re Lioness's (can't work out the correct combination of apostrophes and s's there?!) tank, it was fishlessly cycled, the cycle was a little problematic but did eventually finish, seemed fine for a few weeks then seemed to un-cycle itself and reverted to a fish-in cycle, can't remember if we ever found a cause for it, possibly one of those unexplained mysteries we come across from time to time. Since then I think Lioness has had a few disease problems, I suspect the fish were sadly weakened by the unplanned fish-in cycle and are now susceptible to problems.
But yes Lioness, what are current water stats etc?

stats are and have been for at least 2 weeks ...ammonia 0, nitrite 0 temp 79. water changes are done regularly.

I havent had any other disease problems that Im aware of. I had thought 1 of my mollies was sick..and it did eventually die, but it died from entrapment not illness.

ah ok fair enough, thought i remembered some issue with one of the mollies but wasn't sure exactly what had happened.
